Peer Support can be defined as the, “process of giving and receiving encouragement and assistance to achieve long-term recovery” (Mental Health America, 2023). Individuals living in recovery who share their own lived experience to help people develop their own goals, create strategies for self-empowerment, and take concrete steps towards building fulfilling, self determined lives for themselves are known as peer support specialists (SAMHSA, 2022). Emerging research demonstrates that peer support is effective for supporting recovery from behavioral health conditions, including substance use. Join this workshop to find out how, and identify strategies to promote peer support efforts and recovery in clients and peers.

Workshop led by:

Terri Spears, MS, M.Ed, NCCPSS
